The South Plains Food Bank has sponsored a FREE Summer Lunch Program for the youth, which will be held at Maxey Community Center. This program is designed to provide wholesome and nutritious meals to children and teenagers from May to August between noon to 1 pm.
The meal program aims to address the hunger needs of children and teenagers during summer vacations, when school meals are unavailable. The food served will be healthy and tasty, meeting the USDA guidelines for nutritional value. Every day, the menu will feature a variety of dishes which are appealing to the youngsters, including sandwiches, wraps, fruits, vegetables, and milk. Moreover, the program will be run by volunteers who are trained to provide friendly service to the children and teenagers. This program is open for all the kids and teenagers in the neighborhood aged 18 and under. They do not have to be enrolled in any particular school or program. All they have to do is show up at Maxey Community Center at noon, and they will be served a free meal.
Overall, this free summer lunch program sponsored by the South Plains Food Bank is an excellent opportunity for the youth in the community to enjoy healthy, free meals while socializing with peers. It provides a nutritious alternative to fast food or unhealthy snacks, which can be expensive and lead to poor health outcomes. This program aims to promote wellness, prevent hunger, and build a stronger community.
