Chuck Wagons and Cattle Drives
The history of chuck wagons in the Texas Panhandle is rooted in the era of cattle ranching and cattle drives during the late 19th century. Chuck wagons were mobile kitchens used on cattle drives to provide meals for cowboys and ranch hands. Monica Hightower of the Lubbock-based HX Chuck Wagon, a family heirloom passed down through her family, will discuss the iconic role chuck wagons played in the cattle industry. Monica is involved with the National Cowboy Symposium & Celebration in Lubbock, TX and serves as the Chair of the Board for the organization which also preserves western history.
