Skins and Skulls

06/21/2024 01:00 PM – 06/21/2024 02:00 PM

Get up close and personal with some of the animals at the Samuel W. Wahl Recreational Area at Lake Alan Henry by looking at, feeling fur, and teeth! Samuel W. Wahl Recreational team will be collaborating with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to host their Skins and Skulls program.

Have you ever wondered what a coyote feels like? Or how big a bobcat's teeth are? Or how long a tail on a fox is? Get the answers to these questions and more as a Park Ranger explains why certain animals are built the way they are. Learn how skull shape can tell us a lot about how an animal lives, why some animals are well-camouflaged and others aren't, and what an animal's claws can tell us about how it survives.

Program takes place on the Recreational Trail, turn right on the first dirt road after the Entrance and drive approximately 1/3 mile to the trail head and parking area.

Call the permit office at (806) 629-4259 to register!

Cost: Program is free with park entrance ($10.00 per adult, free for children 12 & under).

Location: Sam Wahl Recreation Area
