Join the Silent Wings Museum as we commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion. Each day begins with the National Anthem in the Hangar Gallery, followed by General Eisenhower’s inspiring words to the troops just before the operation began.
D-Day reminds us to reflect on the service and sacrifice of the Glider Pilots who flew unarmed gliders to landing zones deep into enemy territory as the seaborne troops stormed the beaches of Normandy. We honor the men who flew these missions and the men they carried into the combat zones on that fateful day.
Operation Neptune, the Airborne portion of this endeavor, fielded more than 500 American CG-4A gliders and around 200 British Horsa gliders in the massive effort to breach Hitler’s Atlantic Wall. In the early morning hours of June 6 and continuing into June 7, 1944, tons of equipment and thousands of men were carried behind enemy lines to secure the inland areas of the Cotentin Peninsula as the seaborne invasion force stormed the beaches of Normandy.
Vintage aircraft and vehicle displays, living history presentations, and D-Day Moments guided experience in the Silent Wings Museum galleries will draw visitors into the story of the American Glider Pilot. Enjoy the newest exhibits in the Silent Wings Museum during this commemoration event.
Vintage Aircraft and Vehicle displays contingent on weather and availability.
Persons interested in booking rides on the C-47 must make arrangements with the representative of the aircraft.
