The Mayor’s Fitness Council, along with the City of Lubbock, the Lubbock Police Department and Lubbock Fire Rescue, held a news conference Monday morning outlining important information about public safety operations and preparations for this year’s Mayor’s Marathon.
The Mayor’s Marathon will take place Sunday, April 28.
The Marathon running course encompasses the entirety of Loop 289. The outer lanes of the loop will be shut down to traffic to accommodate race participants.
Sunday, April 28
- 5:15 a.m.: The Lubbock Police Department will divert traffic from outer lanes of the loop
- 7:00 a.m.: Hand Cycle marathon starts
- 7:10 a.m.: Push Chair marathon starts
- 7:20 a.m.: Full marathon starts
- 7:30 a.m.: Half marathon starts
- 8:00 a.m.: Kids Fun Run begins
- 8:30 a.m.: 5K race begins
Loop 289 will reopen as each segment is cleared, and is expected to be completely open by 1:30 p.m.
