Update:
By Saturday, June 1, 2019, 24 dogs from the Lubbock Animal Shelter will be ready for their forever homes in Laconia, New Hampshire. On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, the dogs began the journey from Lubbock and have already traveled as far as Mississippi.
The sole mission of transports like these are to give animals a chance at a life outside of a shelter. The New Hampshire facility reached out to LAS staff to start this collaboration because it had a high demand of animals, and knew Lubbock had an overabundance.
“They know in Texas we have an abundance of animals down here. The animals we have are quality,” said Lubbock Animal Services Director Steven Green. “They have good temperaments, they’re very healthy, and they’re very adaptable to different localities. They wanted our animals up there because they have a high demand for quality pets.”
Most of the dogs transported already have confirmed forever homes waiting for them.
LAS is expecting more updates as the journey progresses, please watch the Lubbock Animal Shelter Adoption Center page on Facebook for updates on the animals that were a part of this amazing journey.
“I really hope we can make the citizens of this community proud that we are doing everything we can to give these animals a chance at a better life and give them a loving home,” said Lubbock Animal Services Assistant Director Kaylee Smith
