The mission of the Friendship Delegation Goodwill Program is to foster the development of friendship and cultural understanding through an annual exchange of young ambassadors. For over 30 years the City of Lubbock has maintained a valuable relationship with its sister city, Musashino City, Japan.
The City is proud to partner with the Lubbock community to sponsor the program, which operates on an alternating annual schedule. Every other year, sixteen Lubbock citizens who are middle school students, accompanied by City of Lubbock staff and elected officials, will travel to Japan and learn about Japanese culture from a local perspective, often building lifelong personal relationships with international families and friends. The following year, a delegation of students, staff and elected officials from Musashino City travel to Lubbock for a reciprocal experience.
Applications are open to Lubbock students who are currently enrolled in grades 6 – 8, to become 2025 Jr. Ambassador Goodwill Program representatives. Selected students will travel to Lubbock’s sister city, Musashino City, Japan, in June for a week of personal growth and cultural activities.
Application deadline has been extended to February 14, 2025. Learn more about the program and submit applications at mylubbock.us/JrAmbassador.
