Connecting with Maps

03/15/2025 02:00 PM – 03/15/2025 04:00 PM

LAST OPPORTUNITY

Developed in conjunction with the Silent Wings Museum exhibition Unfamiliar Territory: Military Maps and the American Glider Pilot, Connecting with Maps focuses on the geography of World War II glider operations and encourages participants to draw insight into the experience by comparing with their own familiar territory.

The March 15, 2025 session will compare Lubbock, Texas and Wesel, German, drawing comparisons between these communities of similar size as they endured the events of World War II. Participants will take a look at the overall geography of the Texas and Greater Southwest in comparison with the political and cultural geography of Western Europe.

This program includes a guided tour of Unfamiliar Territory. The tour and program are included with your museum admission.

This impactful program is recommended for ages 14 and up. Map activities will be available for younger children during this time in the Hangar Gallery.
