Keep Lubbock Beautiful Recognized as Gold Star Affiliate by Keep Texas Beautiful

Honored for Exceptional Community Improvement Efforts

 

Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a statewide nonprofit dedicated to environmental sustainability and community improvement, has recognized Keep Lubbock Beautiful (KLB) as a Gold Star Affiliate—its highest honor for community affiliates.

Gold Star status is awarded to affiliates that demonstrate exceptional commitment to keeping their communities clean, green, and beautiful through education, volunteer engagement, and impactful programs.

In 2024, KTB affiliates engaged over 60,000 volunteers who contributed to collecting 1 million pounds of waste and recyclables from Texas roadways, trails, and waterways. KLB played a key role in this effort, implementing programs that reduce litter, promote recycling, and enhance the local environment.

Keep Lubbock Beautiful works closely with community members, and area students throughout the year to educate and further its initiatives. KLB supported more than 20 cleanups in parks and neighborhoods. Additionally, the Reel In and Recycle program launched in the fall to provide safe locations for used mono-filament fishing line to be deposited, collected and recycled. This program has been popular with citizens that fish around the city. Additionally, LBK hosts an annual art contest for local children in grades K-12. This program receives many entries, and media coverage, as it is a way to highlight local artistic talent, while engaging youth to KLB's mission of litter reduction, beautification and sustainability. KLB also awarded its 3rd Annual Landscape Award, and participated in many other community events.

Affiliates earning Gold Star status must demonstrate strong organizational leadership and community engagement. They share their mission and goals, report on economic development and diversity initiatives, and participate in statewide recognition programs such as the Beautify Texas Awards and Governor’s Community Achievement Awards. Affiliates also provide a letter of support from their local community.

KTB will honor all 2025 Gold Star Affiliates during the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference in Austin on May 6, 2025.
