City Landfills Closing Early on Friday Due to Forecasted Winter Weather

Due to forecasted winter weather, the West Texas Regional Disposal Facility at 17304 North FM 2528 in Abernathy and the Caliche Canyon Landfill at 8425 N. Avenue P. in Lubbock will close at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, and remain closed over the weekend. 

 

Staff members have already notified all affected private hauling companies.

 

The site-attended Citizen Convenience Stations and recycling drop-off sites within the city limits will close at 3pm on Friday, January 23, 2026, and will also remain closed on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
