Fogerson Appointed Chief of Lubbock Fire Rescue

The City of Lubbock is pleased to announce that City Manager Jarrett Atkinson has appointed Deputy Chief Shaun Fogerson as the Fire Chief of Lubbock Fire Rescue (LFR). Chief Fogerson joined Lubbock Fire Rescue in 1992 and achieved his current rank, Deputy Chief - Operations, in October 2015. Fogerson holds a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Texas Tech University, a Texas Commission on Fire Protection Advanced Firefighter Certification and is currently participating in the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program. He is a United States Marine Corp veteran and holds several commendations for service from Lubbock Fire Rescue, including the Medal of Valor. Fogerson was also named the Lubbock Area United Way 2017 Campaign Volunteer of the Year.

“Chief Lance Phelps left the department in a tremendous position,” said Atkinson. “Chief Fogerson competed against very highly qualified peers during the selection process. He brings the ability to both continue the current success of the department and also provide vision and leadership for advancement and improvements in service to our community.”

In addition to current LFR initiatives, Fogerson will focus on recruiting future members that reflect the diversity of the community and developing future leaders. Maintaining the department’s prestigious ISO 1 protection rating, accommodating community growth and continuing inter-departmental coordination efforts will remain department priorities.

“I am honored and humble to lead such a fine organization,” said Fogerson. “I will strive to continue the fine tradition of excellence in service to the great citizens of Lubbock.”

The Lubbock City Council will consider confirmation of Fogerson’s appointment at its meeting on May 14, 2019. Once confirmed, Fogerson will be the 10th Chief for Lubbock Fire Rescue.
